Can a user be limited to selecting only 3 checkboxes from a custom field with 10+ choices?

We need to allow users to select up to 3 items from a longer list of checkboxes to limit the scope of requests. Is there a way to validate that 3 or fewer checkboxes have been selected upon transition?

First of all, welcome to Atlassian Community!

If you have ScriptRunner you could create a scripted validation in the workflow to check the number selected. I have not done it myself, but have a look at this thread, hopefully it will help, https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/count-the-amount-of-selected-checkboxes-options/qaq-p/262718

Thank you, I do have Scriptrunner and will setup a Boolean validator for this.
