Can a Two Dimensional Issue Statistics Gadget show only the status categories instead of all status?

I created a query and added a "two dimensional issue statistics" gadget with that query to display all the issue types and their statuses. 

The rows are the issue types and the columns are the statuses. 

I am having multiple custom statuses in my workflow, and my gadget shows me all the statuses as columns. 

Is there a way that I can see the total # of issues under each status categories (To Do , In Progress, Done) instead of all the custom statuses?

Not off the shelf - the "Status Category" is not available to the gadget.  You'll need some code to make it available.
