Can Jira (or Confluence/Crowd) be set up as a SAML SSO Identity Provider?

Johannes October 12, 2017

Hi,

I found many articles and addons for connecting Jira with SAML, but what I need is something that Jira acts as the SAML Identity Provider for other applications.

What I want is to allow people for an application OpenEDX to log in with their Jira account. Is there a solution for that?

Best

Hi Johannes,

Jira does not have the ability to act as an Identity Provider.

There currently is not a solution that will do what you are looking for. The closest we have is our Atlassian Crowd

However this product is primarily designed for us with other Atlassian applications.

You would need to do some custom development in order to integrate OpenEDX to use Crowd.

Integrating Crowd with a Custom Application

An alternative approach would be to look at an LDAP solution like Active Directory and determine if you can use that as a single place to manage users for both Jira and OpenEDX.

Hope this information was helpful to you!

Best regards,
Brian
