Can I use JIRA Service Desk on a project and NOT have a customer portal?

We are using a "connector" to move tickets from SalesForce into JIRA for escalation. I would like to use Service Desk for the SLA configuration/reporting. So no actual tickets will be submitted via the Customer Portal, they will all come in programatically. 

Can I do this?

you should be able to as long as you do not give the link out to the customer portal or limit access to it.
