Can I set an outgoing email using IMAP protocol instead of SMTP ?

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Configuring JIRA application emails

haven't seen such option (only in the incoming emails)

our outlook policy doesn't allow to use SMTP protocol for sending email which are not part of the company.

Hi Arik!

I think there's some confusion about these protocols:

SMTP is used to send mail from an application to the mail server.  In this case, JIRA -> Mail Server.

IMAP is used by a client to receive mail.  It's similar to POP3, (which downloads messages to your client/application), but instead keeps messages on the server for reading/writing/drafting.

Are you in an Exchange environment?  If you are, you'll need to either set up a servicer account for JIRA that has mail send permissions, or allow your JIRA instance to be whitelisted for anonymous SMTP.

Hope that helps!
