Can I change the name of a cloud instance to a name I already own?

I have two cloud instances that I want to migrate together: lytewide.atlassian.net and festicket.atlassian.net

The landscape:

• Lytewide is a fairly new setup. Not much data (tickets) but projects, roadmaps, workflows, etc.. have been created. All projects are company-managed. The domain is verified. We're using OKTA to provision accounts
• Festicket has been used for years and has a lot of data. Has a mix of company and team-managed projects. The domain is verified.

My challenge:

• Festicket, as a company, is being merged with Lytewide. I need to keep the lytewide domain, lytewide.atlassian.net. Since Festicket has team-managed projects which cannot be migrated easily using Jiras migration functionality, it would be easier to merge Lytewide into Festicket. 

My ask:

• If I migrate Lytewide into Festicket, is there a way that I can change the domain from Festicket to Lytewide? I believe this is needed since all email logins would come from lyte email addresses through OKTA.
• My other option is to migrate Festicket to Lytewide and lose the team managed projects.

No and yes.

The name of an Atlassian site has to be unique - you can't use the same name for two different sites.  How would DNS services know which one you wanted to visit when you went to https://abc.atlassian.net or https://abc.atlassian.net ?

You are going to need to do a Cloud to Cloud migration, from one of the sites into the other.  

The good news is you can do it in either direction, but you will need a little help from Atlassian.  

If you migrate Lytewide into Festicket, it should be the easier and better migration for you.  But you will then need to delete Lytewide before you can rename Festicket - that's where Atlassian will have to help you - even when you completely shut down a site, there's a period of retention before the name can be reused.
