When BulkCloning Zephyr test issue type the cloned issues do not have any of the test steps from the original issues. Is this a known problem and is there anywaye around it?

Hi Kyle,

There are two ways around this issue:

1) Using ZAPI:

In order to use ZAPI to bulk clone test cases what you would do is use a GET command on the test. Now you will have a copy of it on your machine. Once you have the copy of it on your machine, you can use a PUT command to get it back into JIRA through a creation command.

Currently using ZAPI is a great way to bulk clone issue type test because ZAPI is designed to handle our test steps. Other add on's do not necessarily take our custom fields into consideration which is why the test steps do not get cloned with the test case. It is important to note that ZAPI is an advanced product that we offer. It is an add-on that allows you to bring advanced capabilities into Zephyr for JIRA such as Automation and REST API's (which is how you will clone the tests in bulk). It is also important to note that when adding ZAPI to your Zephyr for JIRA, you will get full support on ZAPI so any questions or issues you may have you can reach out to us for assistance.

You can also try ZAPI for free for the first 30 days to see if it meets your needs before making any final decisions on it. You can get a free trial from the Atlassian Marketplace:
https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.thed.zephyr.zapi

I also want to point out some locations we have to help you get started using ZAPI. First we have a recorded webinar that discusses all the things you can do with ZAPI:

A video to help get you started:

Docs:
http://developer.yourzephyr.com/zapi/index.php

Our ZAPI REST API library:

2) Structure plugin:

There is another plugin offered on Atlassians marketplace that allows or test steps to get cloned when you bulk clone test cases. It is called the structure plugin:

https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.almworks.jira.structure

This plugin is not affiliated with Zephyr in any way so we can not answer many questions about it, but I tested it out and you can bulk clone issue type Test across projects with it and not lose your test steps.

Feel free to check it out as another viable option.

Kind Regards,

Emily
