Base URL in System Config - will not accept same URL as used to access product.

James Saxton June 1, 2012

JIRA 5.0 installed and configured for SSL. As I access the login page at https://<fully qualified="" linux="" server="">:8443 and login, the base URL in the System General Configurations is set to https://server-shortname:8443. When accessing some links within the JIRA product within the dashboard - I get a 404 - Not Found and the URL is changed to https://server-shortname:8443. The base url will not allow me to change it to the https://<fully qualified="" linux="" server="">:8443.

Am sure this is a configuration - please help.

Thanks

Jim

The base URL in the System General Configuration does not determine the URL where you can access to Jira.
It is useful, in particular, for notification mails (where a link to Jira is proposed, with this base url).

The URL that determines where you can access to your Jira is defined in your web server (Tomcat, or other). You should customize your access URL here, and not in Jira.

However, please don't forget that a wrong base URL could impact to bad gadgets and reports functions.

You are absolutely right Paulo. The Jira base URL is very important to the good Jira behavior.

Hi James

Regarding rfc1738, it doesn't seems to be a valid URL (<fully qualified="" linux="" server="">) address. So, perhaps you should have to create a reverse proxy role or any other TCP layer 7 workaraound.

Cheers,

Paulo Renato
