As far as I know, generic xml backups can be done for the entire instance. During restore you can choose the specific project to restore.

Automation:

Generic xml backups cannot be automated. But you can use the native database backup tools to automate backup and restore. You might have to do some bash scripting.

Hey Sri,

It actually isn't accurate that you cannot automate the backups. This is a feature within JIRA as documented here.

In order a project from backup, you need to restore the full backup to a new empty Jira instance and then remove projects that you do not want to restore. Here is a link to the documentation, https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/restoring-a-project-from-backup-938847691.html

Hi,

Natively JIRA will only backup the entire instance from which you can import the projects into another instance individually.  There are some add-ons that may help you achieve this such as Project Configurator

Take a look at the link I posted and when you use that you should be able to automate some functions.  Take a look at their documentation for more information.  There is a section titled How to automate export and load of complete projects that may help.

Cheers,

Branden

Hey there. You can't backup just a single project. When you take an XML backup it will be the whole instance. This you can automate with an automatic backup service.

https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/automating-jira-application-backups-938847675.html

You can't restore single projects using the full XML backup as documented under this documentation.
