Autofill field with specific date?

We need to calculate some benchmarks in JIRA which is the time a Story took to go from Status A to Status B.

We would love to have a field for this where we could say something like "Transition Date Status B - Transition Date Status A" and the result shows up in the field.

Is this possible? And what other solutions would fit our needs?

You can create such a field and set the current date for this field on transition. You could do it with out of the box functionality. You can find out how to set current date for a field here:
