Autofill a field to take the value of the person triggered the transition

Yael Dvorin December 8, 2022

Hi,

So we have a 'developer' field.

I want this field to be autofilled according to the person triggered the transition of the task to 'Sent to QA' status.

I'm using Jira automations, but I can't seem to find the right action.

I chose 'Edit issue fields', chose the relevant field, but it lets me to either assign a specific person, or copy from, while I need to choose to fill it with whomever triggered the transition

Would appreciate your help :)

Hi @Yael Dvorin

Assuming if you are still looking for the solution in automation rule:

  • Select the trigger as 'Issue transitioned'
  • Choose the 'From status' and 'To status' where you want to assign the issue
  • Select the component as "New action' and select 'Assign issue'
  • In the dropdown list for 'Assign the issue to', select 'User who triggered the event'

This way, the issue gets assigned to any user who changed the status of the ticket from A to B.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Vamsi

Hi @Yael Dvorin

Use a post function 'Assign to Current User' instead of an automation rule.
