Authentication Error when Signing into JIRA and Confluence

When signing into JIRA or Confluence with an Active Directory account, the first attempt fails, but subsequent attempts are successful. In JIRA, the error reads: Sorry, an error occurred trying to log you in - please try again. In Confluence, the error reads: The following error(s) occurred: Sorry, an error occurred trying to log you in. Please try again.
