I am looking to use Jira as a support ticketing system. As part of this I would like to have the ability to attach customer details from an existing database to a case.
Is there anyway to achieve this?
You might be able to do it through the external system import. I've only ever used it with CSV files, but you can specify a location for attachments, map them to the attachment field during import, and poof, there they are. We had to fiddle with finding the right place to put the files (they have to be on the server with JIRA, not on your own computer or some external repository) but after that it was pretty easy.
