Assigning project permissions and project access

Sarang Chitre October 20, 2016

Hi,

We have around 15-16 projects in JIRA. For one project only set of people have access. I have created a group for these people and assigned the browse project permission to that group. But these group of people are able to see and access other projects too. How do I restrict them accessing other projects?

Also, we have Zendesk JIRA plugin installed. When these people create JIRA issue from Zendesk it asks to select the project. Here as well I want to restrict other projects to be listed in the dropdown except the one that they have access to.

I am not able to achieve this. Please advice.

Permissions are tricky at the best of times, but JIRA has me confused. It's almost like I can start modifying permissions in twenty different locations - with little commonality or clear method of progress.

We're in a similar situation to the OP. We have around seven projects, of which I want to assign specific people to be able to see, edit and add tasks to. But I don't know what or where is the best place to start?

Regards,

Darren.

Please make sure that you have different permission schemes for these projects. And the same group is not added in the case of other project.

Right. I can create different permission schemes for projects. But is there any way I can specify that a specific group should not be able to access a project rather than specifying the groups who can access the projects.

e.g.

  • There are 100 users in JIRA.
  • There are projects PA,PB,PC,PD and PE.
  • There is 1 group G1 of just 5 users.

Now,

Group G1 should get access to PC project and should not get access to other projects.

Browse permission: PA, PB, PD, PE != G1

It is more convenient to add to G1 than to other groups that are created.

  1. You could set browse permission to some project role. Then fill this role into every project as you need.
  2. You can configure security scheme.

You could use the same role for assignable users and for browse project permission.
