Are there checklists available for new Jira Admins to help ensure we action all required steps

I'm a new Jira Admin.  I am looking for some sort of checklists that I can use when I'm doing certain tasks such as:

  • Custom Field Addition/Modification
  • Screen Modifications
  • Workflow changes

Basically all the many posible admin tasks we might get.

I am having trouble remembering all the many things and many areas I need to update and check - and am hoping somewhere there are some checklists to help me keep track of all the steps I might need to follow when making Admin Changes.

Hi @Lisa Russell ,

I don't have any list, but I recommend some points.

For example, when you need to modify some workflow, you need to check if that workflow affects other projects.
Many projects often use the same workflow, and changing them will affect everyone.
Same for custom fields, screens, security scheme, etc.

The most important thing is not to affect many projects at the same time.

I know it's little info, but it helped me when I started as an admin.

Hi @Lisa Russell and welcome to the community,

I don't have any list to provide you with, but I would assume that you were going to need a bunch of such lists, since every task in Jira would demand different actions.

Some actions could be as little as adding a custom field only on the edit screen of an issue, and complicated ones such as creating a new workflow for an existing project with enabled issue security scheme, complex business requirements with the use of roles and groups inside them.

My best advice would be to try the solution yourself before "releasing" it to the crowd.

Exactly, I'm going to need a lot of lists. I was hoping someone had created some they might share.

I'm still building the knowledge about all the things you need to consider when making a change. Even flow-charts would help...I don't know if these exist as part of the Jira Documentation but haven't been able to find any.

Just something to help me get started and start closing the gaps about what I might have forgotten when doing certain changes.

It's a tough one having a brain that isn't quite grasping it all with the current way things are presented in the Atlassian Documentation.

@Lisa Russell let's hope that someone else from the community might have these lists!
