Are there any better tools to deal with JIRA workflows?

The built in diagram tool seems to mess up a lot. The layout gets all messed up on it's own. Keeping it well organized and clean is hard. Import from a XML file creates a really messed up diagram.

Are there tools, methods folks use to deal with this?

We are using it as a workflow platform, and have a fairly long flow.

you can create or manage your workflow through Text Mode rather than Diagram mode which is appear on workflow if you workflow ifs big. In that text mode you can easily create and manage(modify) workflow and its very easy to understand
