An error occurred while adding attachments...

Rex Rossbach January 9, 2018

We receive this message anytime the Jira mail handler fails to add an attachment to an issue.  This is a known problem (annoying), but the question is where is the user configured for this email?  In our current instance, there is an "anonymous" user that the prior Jira admin had set up, and the error email notification comes from this user.  You can see it in the logs too:

atlassian-jira-incoming-mail.log.2:2016-09-08 12:41:16,686 ERROR [JIRA Admin Mailbox] Caesium-1-4 anonymous Jira Admin email in Exception while adding attachments to REQ-426. Some attachments from the message might be missing. Making a note on the issue.

I can't figure out where anonymous is set.  Anyone?

Cannot tell it with absolute certainty, but maybe the previous admin configured the anonymous user as per this KB article:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/unable-to-create-issue-due-to-anonymous-sender-and-no-default-reporter-224401408.html

So, that user might have been created for setting it as the default reporter in the mail handler.

If that's the case, it will probably be created in Jira's Internal Directory, so you may look for that user from User Management, as you would do for any other users:

Hope it helps.

Rex,

Hi!

Usually this is done to support receiving mails from users without a jira account.

the account anonymous can be found in System > Email > Incoming mail

and there should be a user with the same email account created in jira

Hope it helps
