ALL gadgets went missing after a Restore System activity.
Error message as follows:
Tried to add gadget but shows only 1 entry:
I checked Add-on Manager and still see gadget plugin still there with most of the modules enabled:
Checked the logs and see error messages such as follows:
2017-05-21 03:59:38,040 http-bio-8080-exec-25 WARN anonymous 239x2403x1 - 192.168.48.231,192.168.85.122 /secure/Dashboard.jspa [gadgets.renderer.internal.GadgetSpecFactoryImpl] Error occurred while retrieving gadget spec for rest/gadgets/1.0/g/com.atlassian.jira.gadgets:introduction-gadget/gadgets/introduction-gadget.xml
It shows that for all the missing gadgets.
Our JIRA version is 6.3.1
Can anyone tell what seems to be the issue here?
Any help is much appreciated.
Gideon
Nic,
Thanks for the response.
No, the Base URL is basically unchanged.
Not sure if it helps but our installation is Unix-based and had a storage movement activity so I have to shut the instance down and restore everything after that.

Ok, if the base url is correct, then the next step is to look at the add-ons - I'd try to disable and then re-enable them.
If it still persists, the next step is to look at the logs in detail.
Nic,
I had to pick a few gadgets and disable/re-enable them. No change in the gadgets in the Dashboard view. No changes in the add gadgets window either.
I'm looking at my logs in detail now and still picking up hints.
Can you help me pin point any keywords to check in the logs?

We are trying to minimize downtime as of the moment.
I think issues data is intact and creation of issues is not affected.
Would you recommend to keep JIRA still open for users while resolving the Gadgets issue?
Nic,
Thanks for your inputs. I have raised this issue in Atlassian support with ticket number GHS-83185. I guess anyone following this issue can look that up as well.
Surprisingly, the gadget issue was fixed by just doing another JIRA restart right after restoring xml backup.
The new error that appeared was gadgets cannot fetch any data showing "An internal server error occurred when requesting resource". It was fixed by stopping JIRA, removing the indexes directory under $JIRA_HOME/caches, then restarting again as advised by Atlassian support.
Apparently, that action also removed all data as the gadgets are showing no issues were created yet. It's as if the database was empty. So I did another xml backup restore. Everything was in place after that. Atlassian support advised to do another re-index just to ensure that the index files are in line with the database.
We're up and running again.
Regards,
Gideon
