Adding additional fields to components

I have a similar problem as in this old thread.

I'm looking for a way to add additional custom fields to a component. These custom fields should appear in the list view for searching issues.

But I don't understand your proposed solution: what is meant by the multi select field. How does it work? Do you have an example?

I am going  to try to develop via project-tab and set on custom field some info regarding components.
