Added new status and mapped to new Kanban board column, however tickets disapear when moving to new column, any ideas?

It's possible that the issue filter for the Kanban board is excluding the new status that you've added - this would cause the issues to transition to the new status, but they would disappear from the Kanban board.

Yep, that is indeed the issue. Thank you @Shayne Covey. The underlying filter for the board was missing this new status. It's working now.
