Currently, we click on "assign" button to assign the JIRA record to someone, then we click on "Workflow" to update the JIRA record status to "In progress"
Is there a way to make it so that when we assign the record, the status automatically goes to "In progress" without the user having to click on workflow?

We can create a "transition" (button within the issue to progress the ticket from one status to another) with a post-function that can assign the ticket to someone once it is clicked. This way, you can automatically change the assignee of the ticket everytime you change its status (but this still requires the user to click the "transition").
