6.1.7: mailfetcherservice spamming logs

After an upgrade from 6.0.6 to 6.1.7, I'm seeing the following message appearing in the log (catalina.out) several times per minute:

What does it mean and how do I get rid of it?

Apparently, this stems from Jira's inability to process certain e-mails in its incoming queue. Must be a regression -- the earlier version(s) did not complain about a "bad" message more than once.

I had to add Jira's account to my e-mail program and clean-up Jira's mailbox to make the problem go away (for a while?).
