Do you have a self-hosted instance or cloud?
JIRA is very temperamental today in our office too. We are not able to post comments or scroll the pages to review the tickets. We all receive the same server error.
Is it your own instance, or Cloud?
This is either a network problem between you and the Cloud servers in the US, or a problem with your Cloud instance.
