All usernames are displayed with accountID

Teodora Velikova July 30, 2019

I am watching multiple functional tickets in JIRA, when we are tagging our users and email notification has been received, the users are displayed in the following format: [~accountid:5c111w2cd254b00db00ddaed ]. It is hard to identify which person has been tagged on it.
May I ask the community how to resolve this? Or how do you understand which person has been mentioned in a comment when the user is displayed with an accountid?

The reason why the user is being displayed as the account ID is that the renderer option for the comment field is set as Default Text Renderer and in order to display the user it's necessary to change to Wiki Style Renderer. Could you please check these settings?

You can change the Renderer option in the Field configuration of the project. Follow the steps below to access.

  1. Access the Project Settings > Fields.
  2. At the top right of the page, click on Actions > Edit fields.
  3. In the Comments field, click on Renderer.
  4. In Active Renderer change to Wiki Style Renderer and then click on Update.

This is the response got from support team, you can check once. It worked for me

Thank you for your response @shetty .
I have changed the defaulted Renderer. I will keep an eye on it if it has resolved the issue.

Hi @shetty  @jirasupport
By changing the renderer option within comment field to Wiki Style Renderer, this still havent resolved the issue for some of our users, however I did noticed that it only affects few of our users.  Every time they CC's someone on a comment, the users are displayed : [~accountid:5a1698af565f4da9c21b] [~accountid:557058:d2956249-b2ec-45a0-cabe5fd1f8cb] [~accountid:5ba8e8e9165d986a2937a] - Would you be able to advise if this is something the individuals needs to change within their JIRA settings ?

Kind regards,
Teodora

Hi @jirasupport  Can you please advise and also can we escalate this? Our users are complaining that they are not able to understand who has been CC'd in comment section and also its hard to know thought 'accountID' who they have mentioned.

Thanks

Also a new problem for our instance but only for email content- we are only seeing the `accountId` username replacement in comment updates for some while UI displays properly.

Hi @Brian Collins

I have reached out to JIRA support team and they have advised to change the renderer option for comments field. It has to be set up to Wiki Style Renderer.

Please follow the steps provided by @shetty

The reason why the user is being displayed as the account ID is that the renderer option for the comment field is set as Default Text Renderer and in order to display the user it's necessary to change to Wiki Style Renderer. Could you please check these settings?

You can change the Renderer option in the Field configuration of the project. Follow the steps below to access.

  3. In the Comments field, click on Renderer.
  4. In Active Renderer change to Wiki Style Renderer and then click on Update.

*** Please note that this needs to be changed to every object you are using which has the comment section.

Please let us know if this has worked for you.

Kind Regards,
Teodora

Hi Teodora,

Thank you for your reply.

We are aware of how to fix the issue within the Jira UI renderer for a field but we are asking about email content rendering when comments are updated, so a slightly different issue or configuration may be at play for us in Jira cloud.

How can we configure the instance's email render / template from HTML to plain text?

For example, we have a sandbox that sends emails that look a bit different than our main instance, but we can't seem to find a place to configure this ourselves.

Update: We got in touch with support and found this [~accountId...] is the expected behavior for usernames in plain text emails now. We changed our default settings for email rendering here:

/secure/admin/ViewUserDefaultSettings.jspa

Users can change this setting here if they want to change the default:

/secure/ViewPersonalSettings.jspa

Hi @Lindsay Petley-Ragan

Would you be able to check your default text renderer:

The reason why the user is being displayed as the account ID is that the renderer option for the comment field is set as Default Text Renderer and in order to display the user it's necessary to change to Wiki Style Renderer. Could you please check these settings?

You can change the Renderer option in the Field configuration of the project. Follow the steps below to access.

  4. In Active Renderer change to Wiki Style Renderer and then click on Update.

    Thanks
