Hi Atlassian Community,

Since launching JWM at Team ‘21, we’ve seen an increase in the number of teams using the Timeline view to plan and track their work. We’ve continued to rollout features to make the Jira Work Management Timeline even more useful and today we have an exciting announcement that will make it even easier to share a JWM Timeline with your team.

Smart Links are a richer way to hyperlink your team’s work in other Atlassian products such as a Confluence page or anywhere else you use the Atlassian Editor. Instead of just seeing a URL, you can now contextually view your project’s work in the Timeline view. Simply paste the business project’s Timeline link into the editor and it will create an Embed Smart Link. There is also the option of displaying the Timeline as a URL, inline Smart Link, or card Smart Link.

An embedded Smart Link of the Timeline is view-only. Users with access to the business project can filter and navigate the Timeline but will be unable to make any permanent changes to it. When the page with the embedded Timeline is reloaded, the view will reset to today's date and all filters will reset to those that were applied when the URL was originally pasted into the Editor. If you want to create, edit, or delete any items from the Timeline, a new tab will open where you can complete this within the business project.

We’re currently looking into how we might apply similar principles to allow for other Jira Work Management views (Calendar, List, and Board) to be embedded in other products. Leave a comment below to tell us how Timeline Smart Links are useful to your team and how having the ability to embed other Jira Work Management views would improve your team’s workflow in the future.
