why can't I use basic search to filter by sprint for user stories in an agile project

I have a project set up as an agile/scrum project. I can look at the board and see sprints. I can use advanced search to filter issues by sprint.

So, why, in the basic search choosing that project and issue type of user story (which is clearly an issue type used in agile), does sprint show up as a field that I cannot search on?

I really don't get the implementation of agile in Jira. It seems like it has been done it a way to make it extremely inconvenient for anyone that want to work in both the agile board and using generic Jira functionality.

As I see https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/GHS-7255 - the ticket is still open, so we have to wait...
