Seems fairly straightforward. I added -Datlassian.recovery.password=[my-password-without-the-backets] and I know it was accepted because I get the recovery message in the login screen.
But no matter how many times I try username recovery_admin and the password it will not log me in. It tells me the username or password is invalid.
After much digging, I think I found the true answer.
I am trying to stand up a new server, and I have been copying customized files from the old server.
The installation I am copying has replaced the Seraph Authenticator with a custom class.
@Robert Egan Can you make sure that none of these items could be impacting your recovery. This is from the KB.

The article I originally found said nothing about quotes. Nevertheless, I tried both single and double quotes. Neither worked. Crowd SSO is not enabled yet. Since this is an almost brand new installation, I'm just going to uninstall it and reinstall it.

Sorry to hear you could not get it to work. If you followed the directions on the attached page you should get in. I have never had an issue with instances where we had to use this in the past. Sorry to hear it did not for you.
