importing users and groups from LDAP

sn May 24, 2017

hi all,

we have upgraded our JIRA DR to 7.3. our DR is not in synch with PROD.

For abamboo - user authentication and user permissions flow down through JIRA.

we are planning to upgrade JIRA PROD and since Bamboo depends on JIRA for user authentication and user groups( who can do builds) , when JIRA is down, bamboo is merely not useful.

during PROD upgrade -The plan is to point Bamboo to JIRA DR/QA ( which points to LDAP PROD) but the users and user groups are not in synch between JIRA DR and JIRA PROD. we did a one-time copy of PROD database before we upgraded in DR.

1) Is there a way to import the users and user groups to JIRA DR. so that its in synch with JIRA PROD.( there is a mismatch of 75 users so, i dont prefer doing it manually)

2) If we copy the PROD database to JIRA DR - will that flow all users and user groups to JIRA DR?

3) If we copy PROD database- our JIRA DR is on differnt version than JIRA PROD. would this mess things and do we have to upgrade the application again in DR ?

thanks

  • If JIRA DR is connected to LDAP Prod and the users are in LDAP, the users and groups should be able to be synchronized over from LDAP to JIRA DR so they match JIRA Prod.

2) If we copy the PROD database to JIRA DR - will that flow all users and user groups to JIRA DR?

  • Yes, this is the most certain way to make sure they match

3) If we copy PROD database- our JIRA DR is on differnt version than JIRA PROD. would this mess things and do we have to upgrade the application again in DR ?

  • There are JIRA database schema changes between versions so you will not be able to run the DR JIRA against the different version database from JIRA Prod. (They need to be the same version of JIRA)

Any follow up questions are very welcome.
