force logoff when sessiontimeout expires

Is there a way to force a logoff when the web.xml sessiontimeout limit is reached?  Currently the browser will show the last displayed information until the users clicks on something else.  We're hoping like with a bank it will auto log users off.

On that same note but less important is there a way to display a warning for inactivity logout?

There isn't any Atlassian documentation for this, however, I found a similar discussion over on StackOverflow that may be of assistance titled servlets.  In addition there is another article titled Tomcat session expired handling that may be of assistance as well.
