epics in kanban

One project of my compagny works in Agile with GreenHopper. The project is split into 2 teams : a team of PO and a tema of developpers.

The PO team prepares the stories and the Epics for the development team.

The development team works with sprints.

The PO team does not work without sprints.

So I advice the PO team to work with a Kanban Board.

But when they saw the board (only work), they refused to use it because it is not possible to see stories belong to a Epic as it is done in Plan work.

So I had to create a Scrum baord with in infinite sprint to be able to see this feature in the board.

Is there any other way to do that in Kanban ?

Because they don't use the same part of the workflow. So the don't use the same Columns.

the POs use some prelimary states, before the start of the sprint in order to make a story ready to be implemented. So they have to work on a different board with a column configuration mapped to these status.

What would you PO do in "their" board ? Why do they need a separate board to prepare stories and epics ?
