Where is the fullname variable set (or derived from)

Noel John June 16, 2022

Referencing this article, https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/how-to-change-the-sender-s-name-of-the-jira-notifications-967334941.html on How to change the sender's Name of Jira notifications, it references ${fullname}

Is this set on the server or is it derived from somewhere else?

More details--in our firm, we are changing the mailbox name (not the alias name).  Do we need to do anything else in Jira DC and, if so, what?

Hi Noel,

Thanks for posting to the Atlassian Community!

In terms of your first question, the ${fullname} will use the users Full Name field from within Jira that triggered the event in the 'From' field of the email.  The full name can be found within Settings > User Management.  If you select a user their profile will have a Full Name field.

For example, if the user profile for the user below triggered an event and the ${fullname} attribute was used, the From field would be populated as "Andy".  This does not impact the email address it is sent from however.  It will not send from the users email.

In terms of your second question, when you note you are changing the "mailbox name", what specifically are you referring to?  If you were planning to just set it to a default string value, you should be able to just update that Email From with the string value you want to use.

It would be recommended when making these changes to test them in a non-production environment first just to ensure there are not any unexpected behaviors.

Best,

Andy
