Versions and Kanban

Ray Caruso March 9, 2014

Hello,

I am in a pilot period trail of Jira. My team is kanban oriented and I read the following on your site:

  • If you are a Kanbanteam, you do not plan your work in advance using discrete time periods or versions. Instead, you will typically release a version whenever you have completed enough issues to constitute a useful update for your customers. SeeReleasing a Version (Kanban).

Gotta tell ya, that this is not true. I am a very early adoptor of Kanban and many kanban team do plan very discrete releases. The beauty of Kanban is that it maps to any workflow. So this restriction you have on release planning while in kanban mode is a bit of a blocker.

Let me know if you have any questions about Kanban usage in software development.
