Using Tempo Cost Tracker for Unbillable Work

Adam Hill April 29, 2021

My company is new to Jira and Tempo Cost Tracker so apologies if this is an obvious question. Some issues on our board are considered unbillable but they're included in Cost Tracker at the normal rate.

Cost Tracker is a great plugin but I don't see an obvious way to, say, exclude from all issues with a certain tag or all issues of type "bug". I see Tempo has a field for "Unbillable time" but I think it's not available on Team-Managed Projects?

One solution I saw is to have an unbillable project and a billable project and connect them in a joined board, but we'd like to avoid that if possible. If that's really the best solution, are you giving anything up when you do it that way, such as reports which don't work as well?

Thank you.

Hi  @Adam Hill -

Good question - whatever you can dream up and put into a JQL, you can use to create a Cost Tracker project. So you could include all issue types except bug type.

Keep asking questions if you have more :)

Also, as a follow-up you can use Billable Hours in Team-Managed Projects - here's how to enable them: https://help.tempo.io/cloud/en/tempo-timesheets/permissions-in-tempo/project-permissions/next-gen-project-permissions-917.html

And then you can see the Revenue in Cost Tracker vs Cost due to the billable hours logged.
