We are trying to upgrade Mysql from 5.1.73-8 to 5.7 . When trying to upgrade from 5.1.73-8 to 5.5 we are receiving a message stating that nothing is marked for install. Please advise how to accomplish

If you are sure the repositories are in place, take a look at the following resources which may help:
