The current JIRA version 7.1 is approaching End Of Life. This version will be End of Life in 24 days

vivuu January 16, 2018

Currently Our Production jIra version is 7.1.9 and we are in plan t migrate Jira from Windows machine to another Linux machines. So it would be done in 1 month. However the Jira current version endlife is 24 days only and we dont want to do both separately as the time line for migration is 45 days.

1) If dont upgrade the version , what will be the impact. Users will get impacted ? any features get affected ?

2) As mgration also nearby, what will be the proper action ?
3) Can we upgrade to 7.3.8 version directly from 7.1.9 .and can we use same license for upgraded version ?

Actually to go a step further, end of life simply means you won't be able to benefit from Atlassian official support. At the moment there's no real update on versions except latest (which means you won't get all fixes and features if you're not using latest). That will change with Enterprise versions coming out.

That being said, I would definitely recommend upgrading if you can, that will bring a lot of new features and often some performance upgrade as well. My advise would be to go to latest if possible, maybe a "-1" minor if you don,t want to go early on releases. There is an upgrade matrix here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/ug/jira-software-upgrade-matrix-933696761.html it seems like upgrading from 7.1.X won't cause any known issue to latest or recent versions.

Last point, your Jira license does not belong to a version, as long as it's not expired or user capped, you can use any supported version (or unsupported at your risk) and you can benefit from all updates anytime!

Hope this helps!

Hi @vivuu

By "end of life" atlassian want to say that the version won't get more minor upgrades and security fixes, the support isn't provided . Also, the plugins may not be upgraded.
