The Backlog column on the board shows a total of 24 but the count shows only 4 cards

The Jira Kanban board displays on the backlog column the number total of 24 but as you scroll down there are only 4 cards in that column.  Can someone please let me know why the column displays 24 but when I scroll down I can only count 4 cards?

Could you share a screenshot. I’m not sure what you mean by column when referencing the Backlog.
