Tempo cost tracker Monthly data

Arthur K January 17, 2023

I'm trying to solve some issues with tempo cost tracker and I couldn't find how to do it.

One of the projects has a set budget for month (let's say it's 10 000) and I'm trying to understand is there a way to track the cost monthly (and if it goes over or under)

the other question is more general, is it possible to see the budget on a monthly scale instead of "overall project"? i couldn't find it

Thank you in advance!

Hi Arthur ,

Welcome to Atlassian Community !!

Directly from the Expenses page, you may add expenses to your project and see a breakdown of them by category. The Actual Expense Total is also displayed in the Overview, and on the Cost Tracker home page, you may check the total expenses for a project by hovering your cursor over its total Actual costs in the Project List.

One expense at a time may be added, as well as fixed repeating monthly costs for recurring costs like a monthly rental or a quarterly subscription. Recurring expenses are actualized on the day they are reported, just like one-time expenses are. The recurrent symbol precedes a recurring expense in the list.163c086f55b079.jpg

Add project costs.
Add a one-time cost or ongoing monthly costs to your project.

Click the Expense tab at the top-right to add an expense.

Add Expense by clicking.

Give the expenditure a description and an amount.

By beginning to type in the field, choose a Category from the list. Simply type a new category name in this form to create one.

On your Jira site, categories are shared by all Cost Tracker users. To prevent duplications, make sure to check the list before creating a new category.163c086f56056a.jpg163c086f55da9f.jpg

If you want to associate this expense with a Tempo account, select an account from the Account list. Start typing to see the available accounts.

Click the Date field to select a date for the expense from the calendar. The current date is shown by default.

To add a recurring expense:

Turn on the Recurring switch to display the recurrence options.

Enter the frequency for the monthly recurring expense in the Occurs Every field. For example, enter a value of 3 for a quarterly expense. The date you entered in the date field

above automatically sets the date each on which a recurring expense is actualized each month.

To select the corresponding day of the week instead, click the drop-down arrow.

Select an Ends date option. By default, the recurring expense will end one year after the original date set. You can click the date field to edit the date or select a date from the date-picker. You can also choose instead to specify the number of times the expense is posted.

Click Add Expense to add the new expense.

Thank you @Guruprasad Shenoy  But this is not what I am looking for.

Let me elaborate. If I would ask you to perform a project for me, I have a limited budget of 10 000$ per month. I would like to be able to set a monthly budget for said project and that way I could track these costs month to month

I would like to be able to see what is the cost of the project for January and what is the cost of project for December.

I'm trying to figure our if it is possible to set this in cost tracker?

Hi @Arthur K

Please try the app developed by our company - Cost Tracker for Jira Cloud. It is currently free.

In this article we explain, how with add-on you can calculate cost of project per month .

I hope that the application and instructions will be useful to you.

Hi @Arthur K !

One way to set monthly budgets is to use the Budget Milestones feature. Currently, there's not a way to set a recurring budget, but you can manually set the budget for each month using this feature.

Let me know if this helps and if you have any other questions.

@Chris Chappelear _Tempo_ , we use JIRA in a bit of an alternative way, whereby a Jira "project" is named for a client, and all work we do for that client falls in this Jira "project".

I want to track each clients monthly hours usage, against a budget of monthly hours.

We need to see, at any given time, how many hours are left each month in their agreement, this number needs to take into account hours that have already been logged against the project for the month, and also the hours already assigned (planned in Tempo Planner).

Will this solution also work for our scenario?

Hi @eloise ! Yes, Cost Tracker would work for this scenario. There's an option where you can create Time-based project and project costs, revenue, and budget are calculated in labor hours. We also have a new Project Forecasting feature for when you have all three products (Timesheets, Planner, and Cost Tracker) installed that I think you'd be interested in. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to me directly. cchappelear@tempo.io
