Show Display Name When Sending Email from Automation Job

We have a custom field used on a issue screen that identifies who will provide the SOX approval for the change request. You type in the alias...the display name resolves. However, in project automation when I have a process that sends the person who needs to be make the approval an email it only returns the alias. 

Field is {{issue.customefield_18700}}

The email gets sent and says "Hello jdoe..." instead of "Hello Jane Doe..."

Thoughts?

Have you tried: {{issue.customfield_18700.displayName}}
