Shortcut for work column during creation of story/bug

Christina Simpson February 10, 2021

Is there a JIRA Shortcut to create a story/bug and have it start in a specific column/workflow state? I keep on having to create a work item, find it at the bottom of the backlog, and then move it to where it needs to be. I'd like to create a bug and just have it land in in-progress.

Hi Christina,

You can do that with an Automation For Jira rule. If you are not familiar with the tool, here is some information to help you get started:

There are two types of automation:

  • Global: In the Free version, you get 100 executions per product, per month
  • Project: In all versions, you get unlimited executions per month

Automation Basics: https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/guides/expand-jira/automation

You can do this via global rules to apply to all projects also. You'll need to be a Jira Admin/Site Admin, go to Jira Settings > System > Automation Rules (left-hand menu).

For more on using Automation For Jira see these help pages.
