Releases Page: Change Status from Unreleased to Released via email approvlas

In the Releases Page for a given project -- we have Release button; when I press the button status goes from Unreleased to Released.  I need to do the following: When I press the Release button -- system should send out emails to 3 folks asking to approve, if the three approve only then status should go from Unreleased to Released.

Any pointers on how to do this.

• You should use three statuses... Unreleased->AwaitingApproval->Release
• When transitioning from Unreleased->AwaitingApproval,  you can send mail notifications using the transition post functions, so that approvers are aware that they need to approve the issue
• For executing AwaitingApproval->Release, you should either have conditions/validation so that the transition is executed by the designated approvers.

How do you change Release status from Unreleased->AwaitingApproval.  Release has no workflow you can customize.  You can do this for Issue but not Release.  Release status can go only from Unreleased to Released.  Also, since you have no control to customize, I am not sure if you can send / receive email and change status automatically.  Yes, this is possible for Issue.  

May be I am missing something.

For all issue types that need this feature, you should be able to add three statuses and two transitions to the existing workflow, so that you get what you need. 

Please note that you will be able to add/modify workflows on JIRA Cloud as well. As this is special scenario,  it is recommended to create a copy of the workflow, if it is shared with other projects and issue types that don't fall under this special case scenario.
