Ranking issues in jira advanced Roadmaps

Noah Dellenbusch June 23, 2022

Hello Guys,

we have a problem with our current capacity planning in Jira Advanced Roadmap

What do we use?

Jira Advanced Roadmap - Estimation with days and use of a Kanban board.

What do we want?

We want to work through our manually ordered ranking of initiatives as we have arranged it. For this reason, we want to start with the Initiatives above with all epics and user stories in the planning. We have sorted the ranking of Issues as we want to complete our work. We have sorted on each level (Initiatives, Epics and User stories).

What currently stands out in our auto-schedule?

Current rank of the initiative - Epic - Story hierarchy has no influence on the auto-schedule planning.

We start with initiatives that only have epics but no user stories, even though they are significantly lower in our ranking. We want to start with the initiatives that are also at the top of our schedule. So we want to work through these in a linear fashion, this should be shown in our planning. Currently this is not the case

After sorting all Initiatives, Epics and Stories by hand the Results of Auto-Schedule are still not as anticipated. EPICs without any Stories are being setup to be done immediately while EPICs MicrosoftTeams-image.pngMicrosoftTeams-image (2).pngwith Stories aren't:

  • x = no user story epic

  • > = with user story epic.

How can we fix the problems and where is the problem?

thank you in advance.
