Printing the backlog as paper cards

Johanna Lindh January 28, 2013

I read in a Scrum book that if you use a digital backlog and sprint board like GreenHopper you can get the best of both worlds by printing the backlog items out as separate cards before sprint planning and grooming. The idea is that if team members get to touch, sort, and scribble on the cards ideas are formed quicker and the meetings are more effective.

Is there a functionality for printing out the backlog issues on paper that one can cut into cards? Ideally leaving some room for scribbles for each issue. (Maybe there's a third-party script?)

This only works if you are using the classic form (no longer in use)

You may like to try Agile Cards for JIRA from Spartez for both JIRA Server and Cloud. You can print selected issues from the backlog in the Plan view as well as all issues in a given sprint. Plus, you can take a photo of your pin- / magnetic board with printed issues and update your board in JIRA automatically. In a few days' we are going to have a major release with graphical card editor.

If you wan't to design your cards to your needs you may also try our new add-on:

We would be happy to get some feedback!

For JIRA and JIRA Agile (former Greenhopper) you can use this plugin https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.flyingagile.jira.plugin.aip

If you try this plugin please share your review to improve it in the future. Thanks

Hi @Johanna Lindh

You may want to try Agile Cards for Jira  (available also in Cloud, Server, Data Center and available for next-gen projects) dedicated to synchronising physical and digital boards.

Install the JIRA PDF View Plugin and it will extend your JIRA Agile boards with "export to PDF" funtionality.

The PDF files are generated from templates, so you can add white space for your "quick ideas" in the template.

You could also checkout our plugin InstaPrinta,

which provides the feature to print directly via IPP, without creating a PDF first.
