I've written an automation to copy Jira Service Desk issues into a Jira project upon creation. We would like to also copy the attachments but I'm not finding how to do that.

Hi folks,

I'm very pleased to announce that this feature has been rolled out for the Clone and Edit issue actions. You can now select the attachments field in the fields drop down and choose where to copy the attachments from.

Cheers,

Simeon.

@Ste, can you update your answer seeing as it is at the top please?

@Simmo Thanks for the update.. but unfortunately, I couldn't find this field option when I edited my existing automation.

Just to clarify, I am using an Automation to create an issue from Jira SM to Core. (Screenshot below).

And would you please confirm the Jira voting link for this feature if it is JRACLOUD-75991 (or JRACLOUD-78891) that has been mentioned above by Stephen. Thanks!

I can confirm the field is showing up on Jira Cloud Core (work) version.

Haven't tested it yet tho.

@Basel Orfali , which action is that?

The action is "Create Issue"

Hi @Basel Orfali,

Ah, yes. That would be where the confusion is. We've added it to the Clone issue action initially, with those other actions to follow.

Got it! Thanks @Simmo for the clarification. I hope the other action "Create New" will be progressed soon.

@Simmo I can confirm that it is available now for "Create Issue" automation.  Thanks!

@Simmo

How about for editing issues with jira automation (for example, updating a field in an issue based on another issue)?

Hi @kt_bel,

I expect that to be rolled out in the next few days. It is the next piece that is being worked on.

@Simmo I see attachments working now for editing issues.  I was wondering how this will work with wiki style multi line fields where you can add an image to the field which becomes an attachment.  It looks like the attachment is updated (awesome!), but I can't see the inline image in the wiki style text field?

Hi @kt_bel,

I'm afraid that this isn't supported. Sorry about that!

Cheers,

Simeon.

@Simmo Is there a feature in the automation rules that will update the issue status when an attachment is uploaded? Based on your comments here and the options I see in the automation rules it would see so. However so far I cannot get it to work.Screen Shot 2022-11-09 at 12.17.37 PM.png

Hi @Tara Mitchell,

I've tried what you've done above and it works. I suspect, however, that an image as part of a comment will not work. Is that what you're trying?

Hi @Simmo I'd like it to update the status if the requestor uploads any file type (image, word doc, etc.). I've been able to set up the automation properly to update the status when the requestor comments but not when they upload an attachment without a comment.

Hi @Janene Pappas

I don't believe this is possible in Cloud at this stage; see AUT-1030 for the current status of this suggestion!

Edit - Jan 2022: Also worth adding your vote to JRACLOUD-75991

Edit2 - June 2022: It's now been released! Check out this answer from @Simmo for more information

Ste

How many people have to request this to get prioritized?

Hi @Justin Nixon ,

Simeon here from the automation team.

This has indeed become a more popular request. There isn't a certain threshold that we use to prioritise things, however we keep track of requests so that we can see what are hot items.

I can't give an exact timeline as to when we get it will get done. To be perfectly transparent, we have a lot of priorities at the moment and we need to make sure we focus on the right ones. This particular feature has been something that wasn't possible for us to do before we joined Atlassian!

Cheers,

Simeon.

This is the last little (ok it is kinda big deal for us) thing we cannot do.  Please consider this as a very useful and needed element.

@Simmo Do you have any recommendations for a work around as this is being reviewed/prioritized?

I've seen so many add-on solutions that require marketplace apps to make this work, the closest one I found was trying to use the Advanced section in the automation rule to copy the links to those original attachments over to the new ticket but even that is flimsy.

Legacy Cloud Service desk automation has this feature - why isnt it included in the new version of automation ?

I noticed this yesterday - PLEASE DO NOT MOVE OUR LEGACY AUTOMATION TO NEW AUTOMATION UNTIL THIS FEATURE IS AVAILABLE

Cant see why you wouldn't allow it

If it's copied from the original ticket, then just link it so there is only one instance saved. That would work for me as long as it's clear the users that the attachment is shared/present in another ticket. Editing the one attachment would edit it wherever that unique object was linked.

Anyways -the point in MY use-case is - the creator of a ticket includes all the information that gets split off automatically into three separate work stream tickets.

The creator uploads the attachments once. The automated 'children' tickets take the information they need from the 'parent' original ticket.  this would include attachments without alteration.

As a workaround, use smart values to print the URL of the attachment in the description part to download it. For example, instead of "Copy description from the current issue" you can set an exact value:

{{issue.description}}

Attachments: {{attachment.content}}

Hi @Igrar I'd like to try the workaround you suggested, however I'm a novice at 'script' writing even with smart values. Would you be able to share with me what the information would be that I enter in the additional fields section when creating an automation that would print the URL of the attachments from the trigger issue into the Description? Or rather it might be more advantageous if I could have it copy into a custom field called 'Additional Information'.

Screenshot 2021-05-11 140522.jpg

Either way thank you for your time.

Hi @Christine Corona ,

No need for Additional fields section. You can just copy/paste the smart value into the description field as it is shown in the attached pic.

but it does not seams to like embedded image in Description?

all the attachement are there thought

any idea how to fix this?Capture.PNG

I am not sure about the embedded image, sorry.

Hi @Igrar

I added smart value to the description and it worked.

However, the URL link is not accessible by the assignee in the new created issue.

I am not sure of where I went wrong. Can you please help

Access denied.JPG

Hi @Tilottama Guha ,

It is difficult to find a solution without knowing more details about the project settings. I would do the following:

1. Try to attach a different file in the original ticket in order to be sure that the problem is not related to URL

2. Check project permissions. I expect that the assigned user can view the ticket, but can not view its attachment once he clicks on the URL. Thus, check that the user has correct issue permissions.

For everybody who is open to try an app from the Atlassian Marketplace:
It's possible to clone comments and attachments with our Marketplace app Deep Clone for Jira.

You can read more in our documentation about

Of course you can also have a look at the Marketplace for other cloning apps.

If you have questions or feedback about Deep Clone for Jira, don't hesitate to contact us.

Yes please! its called automation for a reason :) so please add this option, manually add attachements is so not agile/automation
