I am using the current version of firefox and when im about to enter my credentials to log in i get a prompt saying "This connection is not secure. Logins entered here can be compromised"
The reason you are seeing this warning is due to change in how Mozilla/Firefox decided to warn end users about the insecurity inherent in HTTP connections. This Mozilla blog post explains the warning you are seeing.
By default Jira Server ships with just a basic HTTP connector on port 8080. However you can follow different configuration guides in order to implement SSL for your Jira instance, whereby you can then access the Jira site on an HTTPS protocol instead as a way to avoid this warning.
I would recommend reading through the steps on Running JIRA applications over SSL or HTTPS to learn more about the specific details of how this could be accomplished.
