Jira "Create branch" creates branch name too long for BitBucket Edited

We have Jira and BitBucket,

I have a ticket in Jira of type "Bug" which has  a summary that is 162 characters long.

When I hit the "Create branch" it brings me to the create branch dialog. If I just hit enter now, I get the error message "The ref name, once fully qualified, is limited to 100 characters", without any possibility to change the branch name.

The only way out is cancel and start from scratch.

The name that is suggested (and is too long) IS shortened, tough, but to little.

The summary is shortened to only 94 characters, but together with the "bugfix/" prefix, it is 101 characters.

I assume there is a bug that the shortening mechanism did not account for the additional "/" in the prefix.

Update:

I just tried with a dummy ticket: (type story)

Name: "123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789 123456789" (149 characters)

Suggested branch name: RTA-5066-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789-123456789 (98 characters)

Suggested prefix: "feature/" (8 characters)

That makes a total length of the suggested branch name of 106.

Sounds like a bug. I would file a ticket with Support and ask them to open a bug for you on Jira.atlassian.com
