A user on my Jira 8.2.3. reported multiple occurances of an issue automatically transitioning when he views it.
In each case the issue is transitioning to the previous step - most steps of the workflow include transitions to the previous step.
Example, he view a ticket in "In QA" status and it auto-transitions to "Ready for QA"
Ready for QA<->In QA<->Prod Acceptance->Closed
He also reported he tried to close a ticket twice in "Prod Acceptance" and the ticket transitioned backwards to "In QA". In this case the close transition only presents a comment screen; the resolution is set by a post-function.
Regarding the viewing bit that can't happen. Some sort of action must be taking place. My bet is that someone else is taking action when he/she is viewing. Have a look at the History tab to inspect for the reason. As for the backwards transitioning, I recommend you inspect the workflow fully as well as any automation that might be in place. Create some test issues and try replicating.
History tab indicates the user viewing the ticket is the one who performed the transition.
In another strange event, he viewed a ticket in Open status and it auto-transitioned to In Development - but there is not a direct transition between those two steps.
We use the Automation Lite plugin, but no rules on that workflow.
