Hi,

Project Roles in Jira, as most of the stuff, are customizable.

Depending on the application installed (Core, Software or even Service Desk), you get some default Project Roles. But these defaults are there just to guide and help out. The Jira admin can freely delete/edit/add new ones, to fit their instance' needs.

In your case, if you don't have the role Tester, then simply add or ask the admin to add it as a project role.
