Invitees to my scrum classic project did not appear on the list when I tried to assign a story

I created a sprint and invited friends by clicking on the project drop-down and inviting friends. Prior to the scrum classic template changes, I invited projects as follows:

1) Project settings

2) People

3) Add People.

This worked each time but tonight it seems the only option to invite friends was to click on project, and on invite friends. Even though they received my invitations, their names did not appear in the queue when I tried to assign user stories to them.

I ended up assigning all the stories to me.

Why are my guests receiving invitations but not showing up on the assignee list?

Are you working with a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project?

Have the users accepted the invitations?

Are you users showing up in User Management with their access to the application granted?

Have they been assigned to a Group or a Role that allows them to be set in the Assignee field?
