If I delete a label, will all history of that label being used disappear?

I want to clean up some old labels we don't use anymore. However, I don't want to lose the history, and the cards that were tagged with those labels in the past. 

I was hoping that if I delete a label, it is no longer an option to use but remains in the old cards the label was added to.

If you delete a label, it will be removed from all the cards, but there will be a line in the issue history to say it was applied and then removed.

To clarify for myself, it will not be within the card anymore, or in the label area. However, if I check the history of the card, it would be there. 

I'm assuming it would not come up with any advanced filter searches. Is that right?
