I would like a quick board filter that only returns cards for which the epic is in "In Progress" status

Hello @lucas_morais 

That is not possible with native functionality.

You want to filter for issues based on a filter of the parent epics. That would require a subfilter and natively Jira does not support using subfilters. 

Are you open to considering a third party app?

There are apps available that enable you to do that sort of filtering.
